Hua Yang received her B.S. degree in the Communications Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Central South University, Changsha, China, in 1997; and M.S. degree in the Signal and Information Processing from the Institute of Information Science at Northern Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 2000. Since 2002, she has been a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California. She was also a Co-Op Intern in General Electric, Erie, PA, from July 2000 to March 2001; and an Intern in Rockwell Scientific Center, Thousand Oaks, CA, during the summer of 2002. Currently, she is a research assistant in the Computational Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics Department with Professor Ting Chen and also in the Biomedical Signal/Image Processing Lab with Professor C.-C. Jay Kuo. Her research interests include mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, data mining, information retrieval, machine learning, and pattern recognition. Her current work includes prediction modeling and statistical analysis for amino acid substitutions.
